Coach Park Hang-seo has blamed the 2-3 loss to China in their World Cup qualifier to an early substitution.

Trung Quốc 3-2 Việt Nam

Speaking at the post-match press conference in the UAE on Friday (Hanoi time), he said: "We were beaten with a goal in the last minute. But the players performed well and they did not give up after trailing by two goals. We feel a little unfortunate. Perhaps I was too early in making a substitution at the center-back."

China led 2-0 after 75 minutes but Vietnam never gave up and equalized in the next 10 minutes through goals from Ho Tan Tai and Nguyen Tien Linh.

But in the last minute, Wu Lei scored a third goal to get full points for China.

Center-back Nguyen Thanh Binh who replaced Bui Tien Dung made three mistakes and China capitalized on two of them to score goals. Binh could not keep up with China’s inspirational forward Wu Lei and let him score twice.

Park said: "When a player makes mistakes, it is the coach’s responsibility. The players need to make mistakes to grow."

Park refused to speak about China’s performance, but said they have a great domestic league and many quality players for the national team to draw upon.

With this loss, Vietnam are last in group B. The next game is against Oman on October 12.
