Nguyen Hoang Yen Nhi has become the first female Vietnamese cueist to win an international three-cushion billiards match.
Female cueist makes history for Vietnam

At the World Championship Ladies Three-Cushion taking place Sept. 20 to 22 in Heerhugowaard (Netherlands), Nhi, in her first international game, defeated Denmark's Marianne Mortensen 25-8 and went on to beat Turkey's Arzu Gok 25-20 to top group H.

In the past, Vietnam's male cueists performed well on the international stage with Tran Quyet Chien's world cup title in 2018 or the second place of Nguyen Duc Anh Chien in 2019.

Female or young cueists have not gained much experience at international three-cushion tournaments. Therefore, Nhi's victory is a stepping stone.

Her opponent in the round of 16 will be Japan’s Noriko Fukao.

Besides Nhi, Phung Kien Tuong also played Tuesday, but lost 18-25 to both Mirijam Pruim (Netherlands) and Estela Cardoso (Spain).
