Only passengers from very-high risk areas need to show a negative test result to catch a train, the Transport Ministry ruled.

No Covid test for low-risk train passengers

Starting Thursday, all train passengers are exempt from having a negative test result done within 72 hours, regardless of vaccination status.

However, those coming from very-high risk areas or having Covid-like symptoms like fever and coughs are still subject to the testing rule.

Once on the train, passengers are not allowed to move between carriages, with those from very high-risk zones arranged on separate carriages.

The Transport Ministry also announced it would boost services, with eight trains per day at most for the Hanoi – HCMC route, four trains per day at most for the Hanoi – Vinh and HCMC – Da Nang routes, and no more than six trains per day for the Hanoi – Hai Phong route.

Vietnam resumed train operations on Oct. 13 after a hiatus of nearly two months under Covid-19 impacts.

Until Oct. 20, it had been requested that passengers must be fully vaccinated and tested negative within 72 hours prior to the departure time if hailing from very high-risk areas, while those from areas with lower levels of risk (high, medium and low risk) must furnish the negative test certificate to board.
