Vietnam records another 2,635 Covid-19 cases

The Ministry of Health announced 2,635 Covid-19 community transmissions in 27 localities on Tuesday night, with most recorded in Ho Chi Minh City, raising the day's tally to 4,789 cases.

The southern metropolis reported 1,803 cases of the night tally, followed by its two neighbors Binh Duong (422) and Dong Nai (82).

The remaining cases were recorded in Dong Thap (60), Long An (46), Can Tho (23), Kien Giang (12), Bac Lieu (two) and An Giang (two) in the Mekong Delta; Hanoi (40) and the northern provinces of Hung Yen (three), Bac Ninh (four), Vinh Phuc (two) and Bac Giang Province (one); Da Nang City (29) and the central provinces of Phu Yen (27), Ninh Thuan (22), Khanh Hoa (15), Binh Thuan (14), Nghe An (eight), Dak Lak (eight), Binh Dinh (three), Quang Nam (two), Kon Tum (two), Gia Lai (one), Dak Nong (one) and Lam Dong (one).

Kon Tum has for the first time recorded community infections since the beginning of the ongoing wave.

Tuesday's infection tally is the highest number ever in Vietnam, after 5,887 two days earlier. Of the day's cases, 728 are still being contact traced.

So far in this wave that started on April 27, Vietnam has registered 59,114 community transmissions in 59 of its 63 cities and provinces.

HCMC accounts for the most infections, 37,787.

The country also announced 396 patients recovered on Tuesday, raising the recoveries to 11,443, out of more than 62,700 infections recorded since the pandemic broke out.

Of the patients under treatment, 141 are in severe conditions.
