Việt Nam breaks 100,000 daily COVID cases

Việt Nam's daily COVID caseload has reached six figures for the first time, with 110,301 COVID-19 infections on Wednesday.

HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam's daily COVID caseload has reached six figures for the first time, with 110,301 infections on Wednesday.

The figure brings the total number of cases in the country to 3,709,481.

Of the new cases, 21 were imported and quarantined upon arrival.

Hà Nội again topped its daily record with 15,114 transmissions, and 18 deaths.

The capital has more than 600,500 cases being treated and monitored, of which 593,000 are being treated at home, accounting for 98.7 per cent of its total infections.

It was followed by Bắc Ninh (4,698), Nghệ An (4,329), Quảng Ninh (3,992) and Sơn La (3,672).

The remaining infections were found in Hưng Yên (3,458), Lạng Sơn (3,186), Nam Định (3,176), Phú Thọ (2,993), Vĩnh Phúc (2,934), Lào Cai (2,756), HCM City (2,746), Thái Nguyên (2,684), Đắk Lắk (2,667), Hòa Bình (2,599), Bắc Giang (2,546), Hải Phòng (2,510), Hải Dương (2,318), Yên Bái (2,293), Ninh Bình (2,293), Quảng Bình (2,270), Tuyên Quang (2,237), Hà Giang (2,179), Khánh Hòa (2,076), Thái Bình (2,058), Bình Phước (1,699), Điện Biên (1,572), Đà Nẵng (1,458), Cao Bằng (1,438), Đắk Nông (1,391), Thanh Hóa (1,389), Bình Định (1,380), Hà Nam (1,345), Bắc Kạn (1,224), Cà Mau (1,180), Lai Châu (1,151), Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu (1,123), Gia Lai (1,093), Quảng Trị (1,084), Lâm Đồng (1,059), Bình Dương (1,033), Phú Yên (968), Hà Tĩnh (797), Quảng Ngãi (465), Tây Ninh (452), Bến Tre (419), Quảng Nam (396), Bình Thuận (395), Thừa Thiên-Huế (331), Bạc Liêu (283), Vĩnh Long (276), Trà Vinh (234), Kon Tum (200), Đồng Nai (189), Cần Thơ (156), Long An (150), Kiên Giang (41), An Giang (30), Sóc Trăng (28), Ninh Thuận (27), Đồng Tháp (20), Hậu Giang (12) and Tiền Giang (8).

On Wednesday, HCM City switched 13 wards in Districts 10, 11, 5, Bình Chánh, Hóc Môn and Thủ Đức City to 'orange zones’ (high risk) and 77 wards to ‘yellow zones’ (medium risk) due to the increasing number of new infections.

The country reported an additional 114 COVID-related deaths, raising the national death toll since the pandemic started to 40,452.

36,902 COVID patients made a full recovery, taking the total number of recoveries to 2,376,046.

A total of 3,851 COVID patients are in serious or critical condition, with the majority requiring oxygen, 281 requiring invasive ventilation and nine on life support.

More than 195.3 million COVID vaccine doses have been administered so far, including 177.9 million doses for adults.

62 out of 63 localities in the country have achieved vaccination coverage above 90 per cent in the adult population.

A total of 16.97 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been given to children aged 12-17 years. 53 out of 63 localities reported coverage higher than 90 per cent in this age group.
