The government has decided to further reduce the number of daily flights between HCMC and Hanoi to two from Thursday and allow only 200 passengers.

HCMC-Hanoi flights hit further by Covid threat

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said the decision follows the worsening of the Covid-19 situation in the capital.

Vietnam Airlines will operate the flights.

On July 9 authorities had cut the number of flights from 13 to eight and stipulated a maximum of 1,700 passengers could fly in a day.

Also from Thursday flights from the southern Can Tho City and Phu Quoc Island to Hanoi have been suspended until further notice.

All passengers on domestic flights have to furnish negative Covid test reports while major airports like Noi Bai in Hanoi and Tan Son Nhat in HCMC have facilities for testing.

Hanoi has recorded 761 infections with more new Covid clusters detected in recent days.

Vietnam has had 67,422 cases since the fourth wave began in April.
