Vietnam's leading online newspaper VnExpress and Binh Duong People's Committee, the organizers, have decided Thursday to postpone VnExpress Marathon Quy Nhon for the safety of participants.

The decision has been taken as the coronavirus epidemic has been well-controlled in Vietnam but still complicated in the world and Southeast Asia. The World Health Organization has maintained its declaration of a global emergency and call for governments’ disease prevention.

The organizers expect the new date will offer participants the best facilitation and spirit. The professionalizm of the race will also be ensured with more practice time for participants, after nearly a month of the nationwide social distancing campaign.

For those who have already registered before 10 a.m on May 8, the organizers are cooperating with carriers (airlines, railways) to find solutions for them to transfer tickets to new date. Details will be mailed to the participants.

Those who has purchased BIB tickets for the marathon will receive a 20 discount code for one of VnExpress Marathon events, valid until March 31, 2012.

The organizers also decided to regulate the time to purchase Late tickets, which will extend to June 22 or until all tickets are sold out, whichever occurs first. The tickets are limited.

Regular tickets

5 km VND400,000
10 km VND800,000
21 km VND950,000
42 km VND1,100.000

Due to the complicated developments of Covid-19, in the first six months, many domestic and international sporting events have been rescheduled. Most major tournaments must be canceled and/or postponed to ensure the safety of participants and the community. The reorganization is limited to some certain events, recommended to comply with disease prevention regulations.

It is the second VnExpress Marathon Quy Nhon to be held in Binh Dinh, after the first one in June 9 with over 5,000 participants. The first prize went to Le Quang Hoa for men’s race and Pham Thi Hong Le for women’s race. Their victory enables two athletes to be eligible to compete in 2020 Boston Marathon, one of six major tournaments in the world. However, the Boston Marathon 2020 has been moved to September instead of April due to the Covid-19 epidemic in the U.S.

Other VnExpress Marathon events are coming next, including VnExpress Marathon Hue, which will take place from August 28 to September 2 in the ancient town of Hue, central Vietnam; and Midnight Marathon in Hanoi, the first ever midnight marathon that will be held in the night of August 22 - early morning of August 23.
